[DESC] Ototo Toguro joined the Dark Tournament with Genkai. The reason was due to the fact three months prior, all his students were slaughtered by a high-class demon named Kairen. Toguro got his revenge, and for his prize he became the same type of demon as Kairen, unable to age and practically invincible. But Genkai turned down the offer of being immortal, and Toguro seemed to have never forgiven her for it.

He and his older brother, Ani Toguro, first encountered Yusuke 50 years later when he and Kuwabara were sent to rescue Yukina. He and Kuwabara had a tough time against him even when Toguro was using only 30% of his power. After that, Toguro appeared before Yusuke and blackmailed him into entering the Dark Tournament. But when Toguro found out that Genkai was there, he faces her in a unofficial one-on-one match.

Toguro kills Genkai, making it VERY personal to Yusuke. In the final round of the tournament, once Yusuke provides a decent fight, Toguro goes to his 100% power, but Yusuke still kills him in the end. Toguro, now human again, enters Koenma's to be judged by Koenma, who was comparing Toguro's actions as both demon and man to determine a just sentence. But Toguro insisted to be sent to Hell (Limbo in the dub) to suffer horrible pain for the next 10,000 years.

As Koenma theorized that Toguro was the true master behind the Dark Tournament, and not Sakyo, and that the true reason he became a demon (for revenge, power, or grief) may never be truly known, Koenma granted his wish. On the way there, he encountered Genkai, whom he still had some feelings for. He revealed to her that he always knew this would be his fate, telling her to make sure Yusuke never ends up like him. Before leaving, he also told her that if things were different, he would've had a happy life with her...
