Released in Japan about a month after the ZOE video game came out, ZOE 2167 Idolo is a prequel to the video game, taking place 5 years before the game and features the game villain Viola.

In the year 2167 AD, there is a conflict between the Mars and Earth colonies. The Martians have been bullied by the Earthlings for too long, and have had enough. So, using a mysterious ore from Jupiter called Metatron, they design a powerful new Orbital Frame, Idolo. Developed by Rachel Stewart Links, Idolo is more powerful linked with its initial pilot, Radam Levans, than it would be with anyone else.

Viola is a friend of Radam... and is in love with him. Unfortunately, Radam has a girlfriend named Dolores who is also Rachel's assistant. During Radam's operations with Idolo, he starts to become sadistic, confident, and a little psychotic. But then he realizes the power he is given is for protecting people.

Later, the Earth Observation Force is hoping to know more about Idolo, so they have a spy named Melissa kidnap Rachel and Dolores. Radam, after hearing the news, takes Idolo and follows the Earth Observation Force into the Deimos station in order to rescue Dolores. But, little does he know that the attack he will stage on Deimos station will go down in history as the tragic battle known as the "Deimos Incident".
