Anime is a huge success for Netflix: Which are the best series to watch right now? Posted Nov 11, 2020
Anime and Netflix go extraordinary well together. The Japanese-originated animation became such a huge success for Netflix that the streaming platform recently added five new projects to the roster. These will add to almost a dozen other projects already in development.
Netflix has announced recently that it will produce even more anime content, all due to the high demand from the viewers. At least one anime title was watched in over 100 million households in the entire world, in the past 12 months. And that is a big reason for the streamer to invest in this form of art.
This made Netflix sign new production deals with companies from Japan (Anima & Company, Science Saru, and Mappa) and South Korea (Studio Mir).
There were anime titles that appeared in top ten lists in around 100 countries, this year alone, so the streamer’s intentions have a very solid ground. For example, “Seven Deadly Sins” is in top 10 Netflix series and films in over 70 countries, while “Baki” is in top 10 in almost 50 countries.
Thus, the anime industry is continuously gaining audiences all around the world. More and more video games, books, even Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality apps are released every year.
This industry has also entered the gambling sector, with emblematic games like Moon Princess, Sakura Fortune, or Ninja Ways. Online slots are increasingly popular too on this market, so the players are also enjoying anime-themed slots.
And when it comes to streaming, Netflix intends to be the main source for anime fans, but also a big attraction for creators and production studios alike. The company has been investing in original anime since 2017, and in the past year alone the anime series have gained 50% more Netflix viewers compared to the previous year.
Dragon Ball, Pokémon, Naruto and Sailor Moon are some of the most popular anime series which have made millions of fans fall in love around the world. But which are the best anime series now airing on Netflix? Here are some of them – either new, classic ones, some of the best of this year or of the entire anime history:
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – it is regarded as one of the best and most popular anime series of all times. It has almost 70 episodes, being launched in 2009.
- One Piece – it is also considered extremely popular and an anime masterpiece. This series runs for almost 950 episodes, since 1999.
- Hunter x Hunter – another classic from the late ‘90s, this series has also built up to a masterpiece.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion – it was a hit in the mid-‘90s. Although it had only 26 episodes, the fans were left in absolute awe about this one.
- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – the show was originally launched in 2006.
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Devilman Crybaby – although it is a mini-series of only 10 episodes, this anime from 2018 offers a moving story. It is based on a ‘70s anime and manga franchise. Currently, it is one of the most popular series of its kind running on Netflix.
- Kill la Kill – it has a unique design, and it is a SF action comedy in which the clothes are superpowered Artificial Intelligence.
- Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun
So, it isn’t difficult to estimate how this will go on. There is no reason to think that the anime series won’t continue to grow and gain audience. They did so in the years prior to the streaming platforms and mobile devices era, so anime is up for a long and great time ahead.
