10: Gin no Saji
Everyday life on a farm. This is the new creation of Hiromu Arakawa, mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist. Yugo Hachiken, a city boy, dreams of a life apart from his family and enrolls in an agricultural school in Hokkaido. He soon discovers how difficult farm life actually is and tries his best to adapt to this new lifestyle. It is an anime with a fun, happy, and comedic atmosphere, that I would recommend to everyone.
9: Nichijou
Nichijou is an anime about cute girls doing cute things, which sometimes may evolve into outrageous things. A comedy anime set in a high school and following the lives of its wacky students, who are learning their lessons the hardest way. With 26 episodes packed with humor and jokes; there is definitely no dull moment in this series.
8: Bakuman
You probably have heard of this anime already, as its creator is none other than Tsugumi Ohba, mangaka of Death Note. This anime is nothing like Death Note though, Bakuman unravels the story of two boys who want to enter the world of manga, one as the writer and the other as the mangaka. They soon discover how challenging this new world is, and one of them has promised to marry the girl he loves when his manga turns into an anime, so the stakes are high. The series has 3 seasons, with a total of 25 episodes. After you start watching it, you will soon find yourself cheering on the protagonists and their dreams.
7: K-On!
Another great anime about cute girls doing cute things! This time, the story is about a girl who can not play any musical instrument but still decides to join the school’s light music club. The all-girl club loves throwing tea parties, occasionally lazying around, and doing its best to raise money to buy new instruments. A great story about working together towards a shared passion.
6: Hinamatsuri
HInamatsuri is a great comedy and slice of life anime. This great series shows us a powerful yakuza member adopting a girl, who suddenly appeared out of nowhere in a capsule in his home. Hina is a very funny, spoiled, and lazy girl. As the story unfolds, more funny situations occur, including the arrival of new alien girls. I definitely recommend watching how this “father-daughter” relationship unfolds.
5: Daily Lives Of High School Boys
Hands down the best comedy anime I have ever watched. I was crying from laughing so much from all the awkward, funny, and unexpected situations these high school boys got themselves into. The story focuses mostly on three characters but incorporates many others as well. The pacing is great, never too fast, and never too slow. Whenever a serious scene would appear, you could hear the inner thoughts of the characters, and that would instantly make the situation hilariously awesome.
4 Aria the Animation
When you start watching Aria, you soon realize it is not what you expected. As a typical slice of life anime, it does not have a strong plot and the story itself is not linear; every episode is a story itself. The story is about a girl who wants to become a female gondolier in Neo Venezia, a city on Mars. Even though it is a sci-fi anime, it mostly focuses on the characters’ everyday life.
3: Clannad
Clannad was originally a visual novel, that due to its popularity got adapted into manga, audio dramas, and later on into anime series and even movies. Get your tissues ready for this emotional rollercoaster. While it depicts the everyday life of students that are trying to revive the school’s drama club, it also deals with some more serious topics. Our main character is Tomoya Okazaki who can not find his purpose in life and is frequently skipping classes. After meeting Nagisa, he starts changing himself and gets filled with renewed purpose.
2: Toradora
A strong second is Toradora! If you are a fan of cute tsundere girls, then this is the anime for you. Our protagonists, Taiga Asaki and Ryuui Takasu are neighbors and classmates. Although they keep fighting constantly, they cease-fire as soon as they realize each has a crush on the other’s best friend. Watch the series and cheer on the pair on their adventures, struggles, and budding romance.
1: Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Number one on our list is Anohana. A story about losing your friends and growing up. This is a great story for anyone who is looking for closure. Jinta Yadomi, our protagonist, is shocked one day when the ghost of a long-deceased friend appears in front of him. The girl has lost her memories and can not remember why she appeared, so Jinta gets his old gang together and tries to help her and in the process, himself as well. Before you start watching this series, I advise you to have your tissues nearby.
