Anime Profile: Fairy Tail

In the universe of Fairy Tail, people have the ability to use magic. These magic users are called mages. The magic that all mages use is either Ability-Type or Holder-Type. Ability-Type magic power comes from the user's body, causing a variety of effects. Examples of this would be element mages or possession mages. Holder-Type magic needs an item to work. Examples of this are Celestial Spirits mages and Requip mages. There are also mages called Dragon Slayers, and these are mages whose bodies are given the characteristics of dragons, allowing them to strengthen their physical attacks with their element and to eat their element to become stronger or heal themselves, though they cannot eat the attacks they create. The only way to become a true dragon slayer is to have been raised by a dragon. Because all the dragons have disappeared, this is considered to be a lost magic. So far there are only three known dragon slayers.

Most mages work for guilds. Guilds are powerful organizations of mages that accept job offers in return for rewards. Of all the guilds, Fairy Tail is the most famous. They are known for having some of the world's strongest mages. Unfortunately, they are also known for causing massive destruction while taking on missions and jobs. The leader of Fairy Tail is Makarov.

The story here is about Lucy, a young Celestial Spirits mage who wishes to become part of a guild. Along her travels, she runs into and is later saved by Natsu Dragneel and Happy. Natsu is a fire dragon slayer who is searching for Igneel, his Foster Father who happens to be a dragon. And Happy is Natsu's cat, who can fly and talk. They also happen to be from Fairy Tail. After saving Lucy, they offer her membership into Fairy Tail. She agrees and together they form Team Natsu. Others members of their team include Gray Fullbuster, a powerful ice mage and Natsu's rival, and Erza Scarlet, the strongest female mage of Fairy Tail and a Requip mage.

The Black Wizard Zeref is the villain of the series. He is the most evil mage in the world. He has the ability to create monsters. But that is not known until later on.

Fairy Tail starts off about a Celestial Spirit mage named Lucy. She's looking for the mage guild called Fairy Tail. She meets and is saved by a Dragonslayer mage named Natsu, who belongs to Fairy Tail, and his blue flying cat named Happy. He invites her to his guild, where she meets Gray, an ice mage who is known for constantly removing his clothes, Mirajane, their poster girl/ex-demon mage, Loke, the womanizer who uncharacteristically avoids Lucy at all costs despite her obvious sex appeal, Levy, a literary mage, Elfman, Mirajane's brother, and Makarov, the guild's master. Later she meets Erza, the most powerful female mage with a dark past.

Lucy and Natsu go on various jobs together, and then they, plus Erza and Gray, make a team said to be the most powerful team in Fairy Tail.

They go on many world-saving missions against powerful and dangerous enemies, even taking in two more Dragonslayers, Gajeel and Wendy (plus Wendy's own flying cat, Charle). Also it turns out that Loke is actually the Celestial Spirit Leo, the Lion, and is now part of Lucy's set of Spirits.

One of the key antagonists, Seingrain (alias)/Gerard (manga)/Jellal (anime) appears multiple times in the series as a Council Member, Erza's childhood friend, an amnesic ally, and as Mystogun, Fairy Tail's most powerful mage.
