Character Profile: Randy "Ryo" Maclean

Randy Maclean is a sweet, shy detective that moved to the 27th precinct of New York. He becomes Dee's partner and immediately develops a crush on the guy. When they first meet, Dee teases him about being gay, which Ryo denies; Dee also notices Randy's eyes are black and finds out that he is part Japanese.

So, Dee calls him by his Japanese name, Ryo. As the series goes on, Dee starts to flirt with him and pretty soon, he starts to be "intimate" with him, but Bikky always comes in the nick of time to knock Dee off.

After Dee and Ryo find out about Bikky's father being part of a drug ring and being killed, Ryo takes Bikky in. And of course, they develop a father-son or a big brother-little brother relationship.

Things start heat up when their new commissioner, Berkeley Rose transfers in from England, and tries to put the moves on him.

When Ryo was 18, his parents died in a car accident and he goes to live with his dad's sister, since all of his relatives feel that he is expensive to care for and is a common criminal's child. Ryo believes that his parents accident was no accident. That was the reason for him becoming a cop, to find out who killed his parents.

Randy "Ryo" Maclean is a shy and sensitive person, who lost both of his parents at the age of eighteen. At first glance, he seems to be a little "out of it" but he is very mature as his attention comes into play when it matters.

His partner is Dee Laytner, who also claims to be in love with Ryo. While Ryo tries to deflect Dee's advances, it has little or no effect on how Dee feels about him. Ryo, on the other hand doesn't know what he feels or what he wants, but cares about his partner nonetheless.

Ryo is also a highly suggestible person. When he listens to the advise of others, he ponders over it frequently and often because of this, he questions himself. This then makes him become depressed.

Ryo often comes across as friendly and shy, but at times the control he has over his actions is broken by Bikky or Dee, exposing a more violent side. This upsets him on occasion, and may be part of the reason that Dee makes him uneasy.
