Re: Blast from the past: pre-crash forums restored... mostly
Looks like I asked you some questions about programming in this thread 17 years ago (!!!), when I was a college kid just starting to study computer science. I'm happy to report that I did end up (eventually) finding a software development job I'm happy with, and also got involved in some open source...

Re: Blast from the past: pre-crash forums restored... mostly
Whoa, what a nostalgia trip! Thanks for bringing back this fun piece of internet history. I hung out here around 2006-2009, and it's so strange to think how much the internet has changed since then! I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses small independent forums like this after getting burnt out o...

Good examples of science fiction in anime?
I'm in search of anime that could stand on its own as a decent work of science fiction (especially cyberpunk, hard scifi, or other intelligent speculative fiction). I've had friends recommend me many anime series that would loosely fall under the scifi category. I am rather picky, though, and it see...

Re: Therion?
Yeah, I really liked Beyond Sanctorum and their demo tracks. As for everything that came afterwards, mixing in symphonic elements was a potentially good idea, but I think the results are kind of a mixed bag. Still fairly decent material, though.

You should watch the German dub just for kicks. Unintentional hilarity ensues.

Re: Goth band?
Hmm... Well, I'm not crazy about goth culture, but I do like some of the arts and music associated with it, to an extent. A few (mostly darkwave) bands to possibly check out: L'âme Immortelle The Frozen Autumn The Crüxshadows Clan of Xymox Tristesse de la Lune Diary of Dreams In Strict Confidence Ra...

Re: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Confusing? You say that like it's a bad thing. The anachronous storytelling and general what-the-****ery is part of what makes it so awesome.
There's a reason they're arranged that way; watch them in their intended order, and then watch them chronologically, and you'll see why.

Re: Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
One of the best games I've ever played. It does have a few flaws and shortcomings, but hey, that's what the mod community is for. I have about 240-something mods running at the moment, and the game is much more enjoyable than it was out of the box. And since we're on the subject, anyone else want to...

Re: Industrial, anyone?
Yeah, I suppose industrial music in the strictest sense is stuff like Throbbing Gristle, FLA, etc.; but there are so many more recent offshoots of the genre, most of which can be hard to distinguish from each other, so it's usually easier to just classify them all under a loose definition of "i...
