I don't usually rename them.

I alternate styles in different games:
1)Scramble the letters in their actual name to form a new one
2)Find a name that starts with the same letter from a baby names book
3)Mostly Normal Names most everyone may have heard at least once or twice (my first Pokemon was called Bob)
4)Stupid things like: Flareon - Flarie, Pikachu - Pika, Raichu - Rai Rai
5)Stick with the current name
Back when everyone used to battle and stuff with game links my sister's friend would name her pokemon other pokemon names so her opponent would think it was that pokemon ex:
Say she was switching to "Pikachu" during the battle the other kid would think Pikachu=electric if I switch to (say: Geodude) I have the element advantage then when they switched pokemon they'd find out that "Pikachu" was (say: squirtle) and then the (squirtle's) owner would be the element advantage over (geodude) owner. Did that make sense? Sorry I can't explain very good Did anyone else notice that all my pokemon examples are Kanto pokemon?

Yes, I give nicknames to nearly all of my Pokemon, some more creative than others.

I can actually only remember about two of the nicknames though (Pearl for Palkia and Pika for one of my Pikachu).
