Whats the deal with crappy endings?

Post by thirdimpact6633 »

out of the many animes that i've watched, the part of the series that's always displeased me the most is the ENDING. Such animes that include Hellsing, and Gantz, and maybe Evangelion if you haven't seen the movie. (i've seen the movie, so I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome). Does Japan try to p*ss off America? some anime's just have a great storyline, lost of detail, cool content, but the suckiest ending you've ever seen that leaves the whole storyline for you to answer. The thing that grinds my gears even more this the fact that the Manga ususally continues after the anime ends, and i am a person who truely prefers an anime over a Manga. I wish i could just have a good ending that i can walk away from with a warm feeling inside, rather then a wondering feeling of what's gonna happen next.

If ya wanna contribute to my Crappy Endings theory, gimme an Amen.

First anime that comes to mind would be Mai HiME. I loved the anime and all, but the ending was just WAY too happy.

Japanese anime is written primarily for Japan in mind, so I fail to see how Japan can try to "p*ss off America", since the inporting of anime to other nations is just a perk; They don't generally don't write their shows for exportation or American Audiences (Big O 2 is the only exception.)

Now certain animes that come to mind include:
Gundam Seed Destiny
Love Hina
Slam Dunk
Flame of Recca
Evangelion
"Believe in the oath sworn through courage"

i was being a little on the sarcastic side when i said that. I'm just trying to say that crappy endings seem to appeal to Anime creators, when they tend to p*ss off most of the people that watch them.

Chobits has a pretty craptastic ending.

 I get what you mean....they always seem to lose the focus at the end.
I do agree though that the original anime concepts are for the Japanese audience. It happens in non-anime and even non-japan films.
I think its just to test the viewer if nothing else.

I wish some shows could never end........... [-o<

I'll just clarify here that the manga Chobits ending is more correct, hence better.

The problem with endings, is that they're often open ended, leaving the way paved for a crappy sequal [or worse yet, prequal] to be made.

I try to think of them as "open" endings, rather than unfinished. Unless of course the anime was pretty darn finished but the ending still sucked, then that can be annoying. =P

Still, sometimes in American entertainment we have far too many cheesy happy endings, it can be refreshing to be treated to otherwise.

The stupidest ending I know was for Black Cat. They just went ahead and made a FAKE FILLER ending instead of the canon ending from the manga.

For me it's always be Evangelion, like, even the movie ending sucked, I was looking for closure but never found it, and I was looking for some sorta sense, I got a bit... but still it ended up making the whole series suck for me.

Other series with sucky endings

~Shoujo Kakumei Utena Movie
~Chobits
~Magic Knight Rayearth
~Maria-sama ga Miteru (I mean maaaaaaaaan the fantasies went away)

~阿裏須~¸.•*¨) ¸.•*¨)
