Sub or Dub? The never ending battle in anime.
I got to be honest and I know some anime fans are going to get mad at me, in which, I really don't care.
But, I'm all for the dub.
I've listen to various anime in sub and I'm sorry, Japanese voice acting just ain't the best.
Now, that isn't to say all English voice acting is the best, but it sure ain't the worst.
Now, the only anime that I thought sounded good in it's sub format was Naruto. But other than that, not too many sounded as good to me.
I know I'm gonna get flamed for this one.
Anyway, what's your choice?

Re: Sub or Dub? The never ending battle in anime.
I believe that the Japanese is just as good as the dubs. There are some Japanese dubs that are simply beautiful, compared to their English counterparts.
One Piece, for example. The dub was terrible, and as such it's being re-dubbed as we speak. The Japanese is entirely better.
However, when it comes to, say, Trinity Blood, the dub is beautiful. The voices match the characters and the VO boyos we very dedicated to their roles.
Despite that, I'm neutral to the cause. I love me some Greg Ayres, Chris Patton, and Vic Mignogna, but the Japanese VO's deserve the credit for their roles, as well. And as such: rawk on, Romi Park!
That's all I have to say, then. ^.^

Depends on the series.
In the beginning was the Win, and the Win was with Gai, and the Win was Gai.

Re: Sub or Dub? The never ending battle in anime.
really depends on the series...
for example in Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad by far the Dub was better (imo) but the Japanese version made ALOT more sense...the rapper in the jap version was better, but the english voices really fit...
for naruto i hate the eng version it's terrible! the Fansub is the way to go ^_^
Bleach...i'm content with the voice acting except Uriyu's...it's soo bad XD
Love Hina i prefered the Jap version far more...

It's all about whether you can get it dubbed or not. I prefer dubbed if possible. But, if it only comes subbed and it's good, subbed it is and the company that dubbed it only released a few DVDs and they were mixed up. Like CCS. Still waiting patiently for Hunter X Hunter and Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny to get dubbed. But, I don't like reading that much. Some subs are inaccurate and some bleed together and others go way to fast.
Some anime out there really go the distance to tell you that this is language adjusted when dubbed, like Azumanga Daioh. Where the teacher, Ms. Yukari has a note where she's actually a English teacher and she speaks French. And some dubs are way off the mark but do a better job with it like Funimation with Yu Yu Hakusho. They made it sound more realistic and right for the moments.

Re: Sub or Dub? The never ending battle in anime.
i like both but i have become quite good at reading subtitles in japanese anime
that and the fact that japanese versions can say alot more than a dubbed version
I realized this when i first watched DBZ and Naruto in sub then watched it in dubbed

There are cases when subs are no good. But that is usually because of the translator. You try to follow along when every character has their subs in different colours that happen to be very bright and hard to see against the backgrounds.

I prefer to watch the dubbing first and then watch it in Japanese =3.
I like to have the option of both.

Funny because I was gonna say the exact OPPOSITE. Though I'm not being entirely fair because I have yet to watch enough of the Beck dub to make a fair comparison, but from what I saw it was terrible and probably the only serious that I watched that there was a huge difference. I didn't like the way Koyuki talked at all, and with all the language issues thats in the Anime I don't know how its gonna work out.
Anyway I haven't really tried tracking down the English dub so I guess its a more to be continued.

Re: Sub or Dub? The never ending battle in anime.
i watched the dub first and i found the singer in the english version had more of a clear voice, but the jap seiyus (i believe there were 2 for koyuki) had by far more energy as it was an actual band playing ^_^Champagne wrote:Mongolian Chop Squad|EL wrote:really depends on the series...
