Red Planet?

Who remembers Fox Kids with Sharon? There was a 4 or 5 part miniseries they showed, based on the book Red Planet. A kid and his family are on a colony on Mars. The kid runs off (?) one day and comes across a tunnel where he finds these giant legged mammoth like creatures. Much like those ones in that Linkin Park video. Anywho, at the end something happens and Mars is teraformed. Yay! I thought it was called Red Planet, but I could be wrong. Any help with the name is much appreciated.
