I'm suffering from depression and my family doesn't know!

I'm positive that I'm depressed and I don't want to tell my family. My mom's cousin died because she was depressed. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I'M 14 AND I'M STARTING HIGH SCHOOL TOMARROW! :twitch: :( :weep: :-#

You're a teenager, of course you're depressed. If it continues into your mid to late 20s, I'd be concerned.

It's prob. due to anxiety. Read a thick work of fiction. Stay away from Bukowski and Plath.

she didnt die because she was depressed.

Depression in and of itself isn't fatal. As long as you're not a coward and face what life tosses your way, you'll be fine.

Take self-help classes? Go see a doctor? Make some friends? Why are you telling us this? There's not a whole lot we can do for you.

Also, if you've been diagnosed with depression since you were 6, I'm pretty sure your family would know about it. How a 6-year-old becomes depressed, however, is beyond even me.

That isn't really legit, now then, is it? If you're seriously concerned, seek professional help, don't use your own judgement.

If you 'self diagnosis' yourself, you run the risk of selection bias.

haha! :heh: so true... :-k hm though I'm probably a contributer of this. lol.

Anywho.

Kaiko, 1) You will not die. (well thats kind of a false statement..er well nevermind) Ok what I mean is you can't die of depression. Shoot if that was the case I'd be dead like 7 years back. lol.

2) Even if you are depressed, there is help for that and we all naturally have our ups and downs. So its all good.

3)Self diagnois is never good. Seek help like Tyche said.

4) Don't just tell us about it, talk to people offline about it like a trusted adult and or friend/s.

You should defintly tell your family...and was your mom's cousin suicidal?

but ultimately, and I need to really stress this: SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP!!!

and maybe do research and you'll see why depression can't kill you. It's all in the mind, you just got to be stronger then the depression. 8)

I have depression, and I'm doing just fine. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
