A Study in Particles

It's not nearly as complex as English, but as usual we find ways to screw it up.

"da" is the usual form of "desu"
that's the only use I know from this, I don't know if there are others, but...

Yeah, "da" is the informal form of "desu". It isn't commonly used in any other way.

"Ore" is a rough male way of saying "I/me".

'Deshou' () is a variant of the copula 'desu'.
('Deshou' is the polite form; 'darou' is the informal form.)
It means something along the lines of 'probably' or 'is likely'.
It can also add extra politeness in a question, or add assumption (depending on the tone).

Anata ga tsukarete iru darou.
I bet you're tired.

Dare darou ka?
I wonder who that might be?

It can follow a noun, adjective, or verb.
It doesn't change tense; that's determined by whatever it follows.
BUT, it does directly substitute for 'da/desu'.
However, it will not substitute for other forms, like 'datta' or 'ja nai', etc.

Kanojo wa Amerikajin deshou.
She is probably American.

Ano hito wa Amerikajin ja nakatta deshou.
That guy probably wasn't American.

Where's the list I hear about? I don't see anything... also, aren't particles all one syllable?

No, particles are not all one syllable:
Full list of joshi

The original post vanished when I tried to merge/split this thread... I forget which. The board ate it. And thus far, I've forgotten to repost it. Although, it only covered more basic kakujoshi (since this seems to be exclusively what English-speakers consider particles in Japanese) and some shuujoshi.

If I have time tonight, I'll redo the list, but make it complete.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this.

After all the particles in a sentence there is a slight pause. It's small but I figured it might help people with pronouncing a sentence.
