last i saw, light was thinking of killing l and was all crazy and crap. i missed an episode or two and when i saw it yesterday, l was already dead. can someone fill me in on what exactly i missed? o.o

I think that you missed the clipshow episode. All it shows is that Light is the new L, it is now the year 2012, and Near and Mello have just been told about the death of L.

No, it goes to 2012. It says that in 2012 Light Yagami joined the police force, and in 2012 the Kira killings got even worse than before.

i was reading the death note manga the other day to see if that could help me see. is the anime much different than the manga?

There are probably other differences as well. Most, if not all mangas have things tweeked or changed when turned into an anime.

So the Manga is always the original, unless the Anime was made first. But with Death note the Manga came first.

I think that the manga is from the years 2003/4 to 2009.
The anime is from 2007 to 2012.

The reason for this is to accomidate for the gap between the creation of the manga and the anime.
