What Anime is this

I remember when i was much younger, watching an anime that was at the time in syndication on sunday morning on the fox network. This anime dealt with a person who could merge with a suit of armor with a crystal. At a point early in the series the crystal was shattered and he used a robot to amplify the crystal. The Anime was based on earth and I remember there being a large ring orbiting the earth. Please help me remember what the name is I would love to see it again.
