Pads in american football actually maxamize contact and it hurts more than it would withoutthem.We need the helmets and pads because some of us are 6'0 224 lbs, and we have opponents who are taller and weight a hell lot more. In rugby ive seen their is an average height and weight, so they at least play with guys their own size.
