It's a cute somewhat romantic story about an orphaned girl(Tohru Honda) who runs into a cursed family(the Sohmas)who will turn into any animal they were cursed with when hugged by the opposite gender, the story gets all romantic and deep and all this gender mishaps ](*,)ahem, don't ask about the gender thing. anyway, I'm not good with summarizing stuff so..

Fruits Basket is about a girl named Toruh Honda who has both parents die and she has to live with her grandfather. Basically she's living in a tent while he has work done on his home and she is found by her classmates named Yuki Sohma. She comes to live with the Sohma family only after the head of the family Akito gives his permission. The Sohmas are cursed and when they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex, they change into one of the animals of the Chinese Zodiak. It's a very cute story and the ending of the anime is very good as far as closure goes. The manga contunies where the anime leaves off on book #9. Hope this helps.
