I found that quote (actually two)
"That I am at one with the great being that made me and brought me here, and that formed the galaxies and the universes. How did that get taken ou of religon? It was not hard. Most of the problems many religons and philosophical movements have produced have been herrorers. That God is a destinctly seperate being from us. To whom I must offer worship, whom I must cultivate, humor, please, and hope to attain reward from at the very end of my life. That is not what god is, that is a blasphemy." - Dr. Micheal Ledwith (Professor of Theology)

"If you study science long enough, and dig deeply enough, If you don't come out feeling whacko about it you haven't understood a thing!"
- Fred Alan Wolf (PhD.)
-----------

I also did a little diging into christianity and cathalosism awhile back and have a few questions for those who pracitice saide religons.

1) If you aren't supposed to worship Idols, why do you idolize and worship idols of Jesus Christ.

2) Why do you worship Jesus Christ, who was a wise man, and based on many of his opinions and philosophies I would say that in worshiping him you are more or less deminishing everything he believed, and I honestly believe that he would not have wanted to be worshiped.

hey, i just thought of somethin thanks to J.Kudos post.

if jesus didnt want people to worship an idol, he wouldnt have preached the word of God, or worshipped god himself. so, the bible is f*cked. it says "Worship no idols" yet we worship the idols christ and god.... WTholyF?!?!?!?!?!

Jesus did worship the jewish holy text (Whi the name of excapes me now), in which the ten commandments were instated, and it is my opinion (and a readly provable one indeed) that he was a very religous person, which would mean that he wouldn't ahve wanted to be worshiped as the only entity and state of being that yous should worhip is God, and never any idol.

no, your wrong. God is an entity in which all people can relate, follow, and all be counted as equals.

not necessarily. If you want to get metaphysical, lets call it a gaseous ball of dust and light.

God is a pile of smush on the floor after the devil wasted him.

LMAO
I dont agree. God and the Devil are, in a sense, abstract. How can they fight or even touch?

Fine.

Take it that my arguement is wrong or absurd. Why then do experts like Wilder Penfield and J. B. S. Haldane both admits that a spirit is possible? Why does Einstein believe in God? I’m seriously taking into consideration what many of you are saying here, and not just what I’ve know and believe.

kyo83 :)
You mentioned einsten in your reposet and I find his views very interesting and have donhe a good pit of research into the matter of scientist's and philosopher's opinions on religion and philosohy.

some quotes by many are: (Bolded are ones that I think take specil interest to this discyussion)
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mystical. It is the source of all true art and science.
- Albert Einstein
You cannot see anything that you do not first contemplate as a reality.
- Ramtha
The gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing knowledge.
- Albert Einstein
...perhaps there is a pattern set up in the heavens for one who desires to see it, and having seen it, to find one in himself.
- Plato
I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details.
- Albert Einstein

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.
- Galileo Galilei
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
- Winston Churchill
Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.
- Democritus of Abdera

All great truths begin as blasphemies.
- George Bernard Shaw

Reality is not only stranger than we suppose but stranger than we can suppose.
- J. B. S. Haldane
Perhaps in time the so-called Dark Ages will be thought of as including our own.
- Georg C. Lichtenberg
It is proof of a base and low mind for one to wish to think with the masses or majority, merely because the majority is the majority. Truth does not change because it is, or is not, believed by a majority of the people.
- Giordano Bruno
All speech, action, and behavior are fluctuations of consciousness. All life emerges from, and is sustained in, consciousness. The whole universe is the expression of consciousness. The reality of the universe is one unbounded ocean of consciousness in motion.
- Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.
- Carl Gustav Jung
Not only does God play dice, but... he sometimes throws them where they cannot be seen.
- Stephen W. Hawking
The opposite of a fact is falsehood, but the opposite of one profound truth may very well be another profound truth.
- Niels Bohr

Your theory is crazy, but it's not crazy enough to be true.
- Niels Bohr

No theory of reality compatible with quantum theory can require spatially separate events to be independent.
- J.S. Bell

The whole history of science has been the gradual realization that events do not happen in an arbitrary manner, but that they reflect a certain underlying order, which may or may not be divinely inspired.
- Stephen W. Hawking

There is only one thing more powerful than all the armies of the world, that is an idea whose time has come.
- Victor Hugo

**Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
- Albert Einstein, in The New Convergence

I think taht will sufice for my rply, until I can think of more, there was one quote I want to remember that escapes me for now, but is VERY relevant.
I was supprised to see Victor Hugo at the bottom..after all he wrote some of the most riveting essays...especial ones on humanity..

Anywho...I'm just going to note that way back when christianity was large in art. Look at madonna of the rocks- da vinci. It was rejected by the nuns because it wasn't how they thought god truely was.

Funny how people give god this persona that he has long hair, unshaven face, caucasion (sp?) and male. So god can exsist and he can not. It's all what you think in your own mind.

Don't let others change how you see him just because god is given this image as white and male. Belive in god through a religion that best fits you

Are you talking about Jesus?, and I'm Buddhist, and I believe in many Chinese Gods. They exist. I believe Jesus Christ exists too. I believe in all the Gods. Mainly, I worship Buddha and Chinese gods/goddesses because I'm Buddhist. :color:

Christianity was created from the teachings of Jesus, who was Jewish. Most of his followers were Jews. after jesus died, the "christians" still considered themselves a part of the Jewsish faith. through political changes and religious splits, Christianity becaome a religion within its own.

most people who don't like jews but consider themselves christian are rather hypocritical, actually.

does that answer your question, rikoku?

god, i was afraid this debate would have fizzled out in the months i was gone, but shows what i know. did anybody miss me? are locke and soulofanubis still contributing?

Not really lol.

Im still here!!!

People have their own opinions on what "God" is or if it exists. My belief is that no-one can possibly know what God is, or determine its existence.

so, basically, christians are jews, even tho we read from different texts, and have slight, but in general, same beliefs as one another? heres a new question, why the hell dont all the religions that base around Jesus christ and god just bond together and make one big religion? i mean, all the stories would still be the same, right? :-k

Yes, in a sense, christians are part jewish. our Pentateuch is their Torah, and everything in the old testament is Jewish. the main difference between christians and jews is Jesus.

Christians- Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again
Jews- Jesus was a great prophet, but not the Messiah. our messiah has yet to come.

as for living in peace, i just wish it were that easy. every holy war has carried the same statement: "My God's better than your God." history is rife with religious persecution. i suggest reading more about it. very enlightening material.

remember this: there are thousands of religions in the world, and each one thinks they're the right one.
