If you want to really be entertained by anime then you have to leave the mainstream and dig for the really cool stuff.

I don't know why most of you keep mentioning that you have to leave the mainstream to find the "good" anime. As many others have stated, you can buy any anime title you ever wanted simply by going down to your local Suncoast store (in America at least).

I have watched several great animes over the years such as Akira, Wolf's Rain, Trigun, YuYu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Samruai Deeper Kyo, Saiyuki, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Outlaw Star, Ninja Scroll...and that is just to name a few.

I think most of you have to realize that anime/manga is becoming more and more mainstream everyday. I am currently attending college at the moment, and we have an anime club there with over a thousand members (and that is just the people that are actively present). People should just open their eyes and see that the world has been becoming more accepting of other cultures lately (to some extents at least).

No, I don't think this "truth" about anime is too terrible at all. It simply means that you have to use more than your remote to find good animes. Any blockbuster or roger's video is sure to have its fair share of excellent animes to watch. Still, I do agree with you about wanting animes to be more accepted. The truth is that they never will be, as north american audiences are too used to viewing animes as kids cartoons and/or animated pornography.

Poison_Ivy wrote:Hi everyone! My opinion is that many of the anime that are released in the US are kinda crappy. There are few that are good but that is besides the point. The anime that are released are so generic. They all have relatively the same storyline within their genre. Where are the great series like "Kodomo No Omocha"? Is it b/c there are over 100 episodes? I mean yes i am glad that there is more to choose from but i would like to see many of the series that i have seen fansubbed over the years. I still cant believe Gravitation was released in either form b/c its yaoi. Hell, they wouldnt release Sailor Moon season 5 b/c of the "questionabe" sex change in 3 of the characters and the relationship of 2. At least it is changing. BTW where are many of the shows from the 80's and early 90's? There were some awesome awesome shows!!!!! Sorry im not gonna give examples b/c i want you, the reader and anime-lover, to look it up and to have a desire to discover and see them for yourself.
Actually, FUNimation just got the license for Kodomo No Omocha. They have a knack for the long ones like the Dragon Ball trilogy and Case Closed (before you complain, note that the title was only changed because of trademark complaints and the names in the series were at the express request of TMS, the original owner). TokyoPop recently got Marmalade Boy, and there's always Viz and the works of Rumiko Takahashi such as InuYasha.

As for the 80's-90's timeframe, a good number of them have already come ashore or are on their way. Of those that remain, why don't you list a few and we'll see what's become of them.

Joke? What Joke!? I agree with the guy you quoted. All anime is good, but better undubbed and uncut. You know, I think Pokemon, Digimon, and Yu-gi-oh! would be more popular if it was uncut. Ive had enough of all of this "I hate Pokemon and other Anime crap" BS! I think all anime deserves to be respected and not ridiculded!

... sorry, i had to get that out of my system...

Well, that's YOUR opinion. In MY opinion, most anime over fifty episodes tend to be pretty bad. I just had to say it.

Sounds to me Like you care more about what others think of you as a whole... rather anime. You need to focus on what you like and not what others think, there are ways of getting anime from japan that are not actualy in Japan and if anyone has any questions feel free to pm me although most of it will be subtitled and this depend's if you know how to read, however I am sure this will not be a problem. :D

The worst part for me is... Only me and my sister like anime, we get yelled at everytime we read it, all me japanese music on Napster was deleted, I have to listen to it really quiet. I can't ask for anime for my birthday, so when we go to BORDERS I ask for "book money" not InuYasha money. And I get almost every anime thing i own from friends, or my family doesn't know about it^^ Thank gawd for internet! PRAISE IT! :bounce:

I hate watching anime with subtitles, if I wanted to read anime I'd pick up a manga. Its distracting as well. Some animes do a good job of dubbing, of course some dont, but Ive seen a lot of good ones. And I agree with you on SD Gundam.

I never really understood the logic behind some parents. Mine have always been protective but yet still lenient, and never questioned anime. What's wrong with it? You have your varying age brackets, with kids anime like Hamtaro, and adult anime like hentai, but isn't TV, movies, and books the same way? They fail to see anime as a media and just generalize it with being violent and sexual. *sigh* I just don't understand.

You want a scary truth about anime, try this.

Gundam Wing is like Gundam's version of Power Rangers.
Consider...

Power Rangers: A team of 5 that must work together to win.
Gundam Wing: A group of 5 that must work together to win.

Power Rangers: They fight hordes of nameless enemy soldiers and can clean their clocks with ease.
Gundam Wing: They fight squads of cannon fodder mobile suits and wipe them out without nearly a scratch on them.

Power Rangers: They only loose when a boss type character shows up, then they must upgrade their powers.
Gundam Wing: They only loose at a critical point in the plot or when a boss mobile suit shows up, then they must upgrade their Gundams.

Power Rangers: Each ranger has powers and abilities unique to that character.
Gundam Wing: Each pilot and their Gundam has a weapons load and abilities unique to that pilot and Gundam.

Lastly
Power Rangers is a sentai series, meaning it's a genre of Japanese superhero stories, where five teenagers are granted heightened abilities and incredible martial arts skills.
Gundam Wing is like a sentai series where five teenagers are granted heightened abilities and incredible martial arts skills.

That is kinda freaky. But do the Power Rangers have a DeathScythe? Never!
