No u can't. He gave his strongest hit to his master 'Hiko' but he didn't even kill him!

Hiko was lucky, you might say.
Kenshin had hit Hiko with Amakakeru Ryo no Hirameki, the ultimate Hiten Mitsurugi technique. Even with a blunted edge, the sheer impact of the technique could have killed Hiko (in fact, the death of the master is the typical means of passing the mastery of the school).
However, for one reason or another, one of the nails that held the blade to the handle came loose, and it dulled the impact enough for Hiko to survive.
Anyway, to describe Vash's own vow not to kill, it's because of his "idol", Rem Saverem. She taught him that all life is precious, and since he looked up to her, he took up her philosophy, and despite having such a powerful gun, he's gone out of his way to not kill anyone (to see just what this vow has cost him, watch episode 13).

Yes, but don't forget, it was still a reverse blade sword!
Anyway, Tomoe wasn't really Kenshin's idol, but he made his vow in kinda the same way (hey, doing something for some1 u love is as strong as doing it for some1 u look up 2)so in a way, the 'plot' is kinda the same (note, I'm not saying the anime is crap, just making a comparison).
I'll watch the anime as soon as I watch other stuff

I don't know about shutting her up, but I guess u could get her to change the subject by getting her to watch another anime. Actually, that might be bad cos then she'd be talking non-stop about 2 animes. Unless u don't mind her talking non-stop about an anime u like, then I'm fresh outta ideas.

I don't believe that Kenshin was the first fighting warrior with a vow to not kill and Vash won't be the last - this is a well-used plot device throughout genres and media. I love the first Kenshin OVA - the one were he "gets" his scar. The TV show doesn't interest me at all. But back to Trigun.
Absolutely loved it! There you have rumours about a humanoid typhoon who wipes out cities and then you see that guy with spiky hair and that stupid grin on his face who doesn't draw his weapon and rather goofs around. That's a great start and Milly and Merryl are just adorable -- especially Milly Thompson that 1,80m girl with a stun-gun in her coat looking as scared as a 6-year-old schoolgirl. But as the series goes on I like how the mood gets darker while the history of Vash is revealed. I only wished for a bit more character developement or background for the different gung-ho gunmen (however they are spelled). But I like how drama, comedy, romance, action and big-plot all come together within this fine animations.
Does anyone know why Knives so often is called Millions Knives on ebay or in fanfiction? He was never called that in the show and as far as I know neither in the manga.

First of all i think millions knives name was shown in the credits in the last episode of trigun series.
Secondly i heard that trigun wasn't that great in japan.Im sure its beacause Trigun has americian characters when most anime's have japaneese characters.

Well, I think Trigun is a great show. So is Rurouni Kenshin, but this Message Board isnt about Rurouni Kenshin, is it? Nope, didnt think so. I dont mean to be rude.
Personally, I think Vash is HOT!!! ^^

Actually Vash was in love with rem. (Site episode Rem Savrem)
**SPOILER ALERT**
In addition unlike Kenshin when forced to make a choice between two lives the second time he does kill Lagato Bluesummers.
Another contrast is that Kenshin's vow was made in repentance for all of the men he previously killes, while vash's was made because of his own Ideals.
