legato knew he was ment to die it was what knive wanted from all the gun ho gunsthey where ment to make vash suffer and they did.

Well in the manga, Lagato didn't die, Knives just crushed his body. And now he's in some sort of casket thingy with his head sticking out. And he has a robot arm he can use to drag himself around with, but he mostly needs someone to carry him from place to place.

He would do anything to please his master, so he died for the sake of it
