If you use Windows, you can install the Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) that allows you to type in Japanese. If you have XP, you'll probably need to grab your installation CD to do it. You go to Control Panel > Regional & Language Options > Languages (tab) > Add > Input Language: Japanese. It may prompt you to put your CD in so it can install it. If you're using something lower than XP, you'll have to go download the IME from here on Microsoft's site.

But you'll need some knowledge of kana to be able to use the IME. I think Ryukon and/or Geishaboy went over it in one of these threads... If not, you might want to Google for Japanese fonts for the meantime.

Is it possible for a human being to learn about 750 kanjis in 9 months? (I'm asking this because if I passed to level 2 on Noryokushiken, I'll have to learn more 750 kanjis to do the exam this year)
And what about 4000 kanjis? (This is what I'll have to learn next year if I pass to level 1 on Noryokushiken this year)

And Dreams, are you learning korean?? (i've just read on your signature XD) is it difficult? i know how to write something, but i have no idea of what it means or how we read it.

It's going to take a good deal of dedication and practice, but I know you can learn 750 kanji in 9 months. You're great with languages. :) When you break it down, that means you'll need to learn about 20 kanji a week. If you break that down even futher, that's like learning 3 kanji a day. When you think about it that way, it doesn't seem so bad.

4000? Wait... Isn't the kanji requirement for level 1 of the JLPT only about 2000 kanji? How many kanji do you know already?

The Korean alphabet is pretty easy, IMO. Each symbol represents a letter or sound, and then they get put together to make syllables. So there can be 2-4 sounds in each syllable. It's just a matter of memorizing the initial symbols themselves, and you've learned the whole alphabet. :) Of course, there are certain phonetic rules when reading words aloud, like how letters change when next to other certain letters. But it's really not bad.

Korean grammar seems to be very similar to Japanese. At the moment, though, I'm concentrating on learning the alphabet, and also moving forward with spoken Chinese (it has grammar similar to English... it's sooo much easier than Japanese!).

A little question: how is "swiss" and "Switzerland" in japanese? If possible, I'd need both in roman and japanese writing. When I'm exercising, I can't say where I am from since I can't find those words :D

By the way, I guess the question should be: "swiss" wa nihongo de nan desu ka
Am I right? Or did I forget some part of the question?

(I know it's crappy romaji, but I'm trying to learn the basic grammar before attacking the kanji part of japanese :))

Oh.. I'll try to do it...^^
Yes, I've just checked on the program of Noryokushiken, they require 2000 kanji for level 1... ^^' I thought there was something strange on my post... XDD
I'm not sure about how much kani I already know, but I think I know about 330 or something around this.
I think Korean has such an interesting sound... ^^ I'd really like to learn it... do you know some site that teaches it?

(I was soooo happy when you said I'm great with languages :heh: Thanks! )

Yossha! You asked the question correctly. :)

Both "Swiss" and "Switzerland" can be written スイス (suisu), however, "Switzerland" also has a longer version: スウィツァーランド (switsaarando), but it looks like it's more popular to use the abbreviation.

Don't forget that if you refer to yourself as a Swiss person, you'll need to add "jin" (人) to the end: スイス人!

I'm glad it's not 4000 that's required!

I bought the "Teach Yourself Korean" book, since I seem to learn best from books, and I really like the Teach Yourself series. However, I just randomly searched "learn Korean" on Google, and a ton of sites come up. So you can do that if you want to look into the language.

Thanks a lot, I can do proper sentences now.
Too bad there is no swiss language, so I won't have a "suisugo"... only "suisu" and "suisujin", but "itariago" :D

[edit]By the way, thanks a lot for linking me "Teach yourself Japanese"... it is a great book, and things are simply explained.
I already took the one for writing too - but I will focus on understanding first :D

first I thought it was 5000 that's required, so I was like...   I'm glad too it's only 2000 required (only? XD)

I don't know if there is this Teach Yourself series here...
I'm looking for sites that teach korean right now, there are some sites that I think they are good ^^

Yeah, the Korean writing system, at least, isn't too bad.
But grammatically... "easy"? More like "needlessly complex". XD

*Chinese has easy grammar.
For an Asian language, anyway.

Yes, grammatically is like needlessly complex... XDD
I want to learn chinese.. o__o I'll look for some site while I can't have classes... ^^'
One question, does it help on chinese if I know kanji?

(colored post is funny, but i won't post like this again... u___u)

Like, does knowing kanji make Chinese easier? Yes and no. You'll know the meanings of lots of words (mostly nouns), but you'll have to learn how to pronounce them in Chinese. The ON reading of kanji in Japanese will not really help you in being able to say the words in Chinese.

Oh.. that's what I thought... I was able to read one phrase in chinese today (but it was written the number of pencils that came in a box XD)... but I don't know how to pronounce what I can read in chinese...
all I can say in chinese is wo ai ni.. XD

"I love you"!! XD Awesome!

Yeah, I did forget to mention that sometimes there are some words pronounced the same in Japanese and Chinese, like 愛 (ai). But it seems to be a rarity.
