From what I know, there is considerable evidence that points out that Giovanni is Ash's father. The Wikipedia even has a detailed article on the whole controversy!

I hope they add Ash's dad to one of the episodes or movies....at one time I thought that Giovanni was Ash's dad but that was a long time ago.
