I agree, I've gotten kind of bored with this look too. When I redesigned the site back in 2002, I added the ability for users to change the color and background image of the site, which I think has helped to keep it from getting stale too fast, but you can only change colors so many times before you start wanting to see something different. Problem is, I'm not sure what kind of design I'd like to do next, and experimenting takes a lot of time. I need to be able to see it in my head beforehand so it won't take so long implement. Any ideas?

Me personaly think that Red, Black and white look very good together.

Naming off color combinations or potential textures isn't really all that helpful. If you truly have ideas, what I'd need would be a mock up. Some kind of visual representation. Like take a screenshot of a page and edit it the way you want it to look, or save one of the pages to your computer and edit it the way you want it to look. I'm sure some of you out there have ideas floating around in your head. I could probably even send you a free DVD or something if I decide to adopt your idea. Just something to think about.

Do you create templates youself or are you fine with installing existing ones from phpbb.com or similar sites?

ususally when you download from phbb.com sites you cant edit them... my brain hurts from thinking so ill just smile.

I have to create them myself because I need the forum and the rest of the site to have the same style.

Of course you can edit them . The basic style SubSilver normaly is the basic to create own styles.
