Over here they plan to release Transformers Headmasters on DVD.
A quick history lesson:
In 1984 Hasbro released Japanese transforming robot toys and a comic and cartoon series to go with. Japanese toy company Takara saw the success of their toys under the new brand and rereleased them under Transformers and imported the cartoon. When in America the show was going to decline, they made a 3 part forth season finale. Because popularity was still strong in japan, the 3 part finale was replaced with a full 35 episode series follow up called headmasters, which was followed up with Masterforce, Victory and the OVA Zone.

I should have mentioned this eariler, there are 2 OVAs. Because Japan didn't get the movie until 1989 they needed some filler. An OVA named "Scramble City" was made to detail the construction of Metroplex. The next OVA was the last piece of animated G1 called Zone. In this one the Autobots and the Decepticons (Known as Cybertrons and Destrons in Japan) race to find an artifact called the Zodiak, an artifact said to have created the universe.
