If you're Japanese and Japanese is the only language you know, it would only be natural to find learning another language harder than your first and visa versa.

So, it depends.

Personally, I think Japanese is harder to learn than
English but if I was Japanese and I didn't know how to speak English, I'd probably say English was the hardest.

Okay. It depends. If you are familiar with Romance languages (French, Spanish, Italian... and some others), obviously you'll get the jist of English a lot faster than you would if you were trying to learn Nihongo. However, Romanticized languaged are far more complex in sentence structure and grammar than Asian languages. Therefore, it's a fact that if you were Japanese, English would be harder to learn conversely to if you were English learning Japanese. Of course, in Japan, they give students a general education about the English language (so I've heard)

Technically, english, due to it being a total mishmash of many other languages [especially European].

Supposedly, the hardest language to learn is the one that is the most different from your native language. So things like Japanese would be hard for someone who only speaks English, and vice-versa.
