At the end of the series Vash shoots Knives several times, and then carries his body into town, did he actully kill him, or did he wound him? Can't quite tell. most people I've consulted say he didnt kill him, but its hard to tell

I haven't really come to terms with that either.

For one, if Vash kills, that goes against his philosophy, but if he doesn't, Knives isn't the kind of person who looks like he'll stop anytime soon...

More than a year into it and I still haven't figured it out.

I'm pretty sure he didn't. He didn't him in the vitals, and Knives can heal himself. All he did was disarm him.

He shot once in each arm and leg and once through the shoulder

ya, he didn't shoot him in any fatal areas, he just shot him enough to stay down, one shot in each limb.

At the end of Trigun, Vash is supposed to have cast aside the philosophies of both Knives (the end always justifies the means) and Rev (do no lasting harm). He was supposed to have taken a third philosophy, independent of the two impressed upon him.

In the Japanese version, there is an extra scene cut in most versions released America. It has Vash carrying the severely wounded and unconscious Knives off to a hospital for treatment. Presumably he is going to try to change Knives's perspective on things.

*angel arms fire*
Wolfwood's random disembodied voice:What are you doing Needle-Noggin?! It's right next to you! Use it, dammit!
*Vash fires and reclaims his gun, then shoots knives*
Knives: guh...guh...WAAAAH!!!
*fires, grazes vash's cheek*
*Vash reloads and shoots him multiple times...1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 counting hitting the gun away.*
Vash *raising gun*: I...I will....SURVIVE!!! "
*drops gun, throws coat, picks up knives*
KNIVES IS CLEARLY BREATHING AT THIS POINT.
"Rem, I will continue to believe in you. But from now on, I will look to my own words for guidance"
*carries knives home* (PS no hospital in sight)
THAT'S IT. do you mean "I will survive?" or the rem thing?

Vash didn't kill Knives,or else he wouldn't have carried Vash into the town with bandages on him >_>...And there was no hospital,unless I missed something >_>...<_<...-Doesn't see a hospital- Trigun Forever is right,and Knives didn't die ^_^...I prevail...

at the end, when Vash is standing over him, triumphant, Knives is clearly breathing heavily(not dead).

Knives bleeds everywhere,but is still breathing and still alive...so,that's it...Knived DIDN'T die,and there was no hospital...Case closed =D
