why is ed so loopy?

mmmm, it was probably done to add some spice to the show u know, plus u look at what her father does for a living, where the nun took care of her, and all the technology she works with, and she lived on her own for most of her life, the poor kid was bound to go somewhat loopy. Living on her own is prolly why she talks in like third person. but this is all my personal oppinion.

Ed is a really good character even if she is a little bit insane

I agree , Ed rules . I think that She adds spice to the show , and makes it more fun to watch.

Ed sort of ... different ... I think the talking in third person is to show she's lonley, and she'd often talk to herself for company ... which is weird in a way, but logical. She's just a kid remeber, and if she wasn't loopy, the show wouldn't be as it is ^^

Even though shes a maniac, the show wouldnt be the same without her
