Absolute Anime

This is just to discuss which anime shows you all think would make a good live-action movie? There's been talks of turning Witchhunter Robin into a live action movie, so it got me thinking... What OTHER shows would look good as a live-action movie?

My own thoughts are as follows:

Ghost In The Shell; It'd definetly make a good sci-fi flick. I haven't seen that many episodes nor the movies, but from what I have seen, it shouldnt be hard to mimic.

Cowboy Bebop; Okay, in no way could a live-action Bebop movie EVER match the series in quality, but just think about it... The anime already has many qualities that could be copied onto film. The family theme of the Bebop crew, the personalities of Spike, Jet, Faye, and Edward are easy to act on. Spike's the rebel son, Jet's the caring father that tries to keep things under control, Faye is the daughter with a bit of a klepto problem, and lil Ed is the child prodigy. The only real problem I see with making a live movie would be the casting. Who could possibly play the parts of our favorite bounty hunters?

Teen Titans; Shut up. I know it's not anime. Doesn't mean it isn't awesome! Actually a live action movie is probably in the works already, what with Warner Brothers bringing all the comics to the big screen 'Teen Titans: the movie' is inevitable. Tell the truth, this is the only anim... *ehem*... CARTOON... that I can already see as a movie. But who would play the parts..? Hmmm, I'll get back to you on that.

Super Milk Chan; No. After we had to put up with Spy Kids and Baby Geniuses? Hell no.

Outlaw Star; It's coming this fall under the name 'Serenity'.

Ranma 1/2; I only put this one up here cause I think a movie would be hilarious. Only suggestion I have is don't alternate between a male and a female actor for the lead. Just get the guy to dress in drag Preferably Rider Strong cause he looked sexy in that one episode of Boy Meets World. You know the one I mean

I'm sure there are plenty more, but I'm still relatively new to the anime-verse (and I haven't looked through all the anime profiles yet!) So let's hear some of your suggestions, and, just for kicks, see if you can think of an actor to play the part

I say Ghost in the Shell only if it gets more action-pact. Thought, there is a game I want to see as a movie and that is Metroid!

Metroid would be awesome until you realize that every time a game gets turned into a movie it ends up sucking.

I would seriously cry if they made a super milk chan live action. i tried watching it once... i turned the channel half way through because it was just random stupidity. sometimes, on the very rare occasion, random stupidity works really well. that's not the case with SMC.

This is the work of a man who stayed up past one in the morning. Heh, if you guys got a good cast list for any other anime-turned-movies it might be kinda fun to see it. Or not...I dunno I'm tired.

i think teen titans would make an awsome movie. Its so cool as a tv show that the movie would rock expecialy if it had the new red x in

I think Teen Titans should stay as an anime.

I have a few that would be cool to see as a movie; some of which would be ahrder than others to make...

Furi Kuri - This would either be incredibly easy or impossibly hard to turn into a movie...

Hellsing - Probably one of the more difficult ones to do. The special effects would be difficult considering the would have to interact so constantly and seamlessly with the actors... And some of the series would be relatively contrivercial.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho - I think this would be realatively easy to do with today's special effects, and it would be incredibly exciting to watch.

Live action is no subsitute for the real thing. There have been live action versions of anime in the past and they all sucked big. So much so that I no longer think about what a live action version of them would look like any more.

The actions in anime don't translate well to living actors and actress, and those people look silly when doing those things in the first place.

I was laughing at myself the other day becasue I caught myself thinking of shows, The Pretender for instance, that would have made a great Anime!

If one wants live-action anime to be good...make certain it's not done by Hollywood.
I remember seeing the Hollywood version of Fist of the North Star (when it finally came to TV), and it was just more reason why I don't see Hollywood-derived movies.

In the original anime/manga, Kenshiro gains a friend but loses the love of his life. Obvious why: the friend allowed the author to give exposition, while the loss of the lover provided angst. And his foe took over the area he called Southern Cross (named after his martial art) to give his lover a kingdom (she was Ken's lover and still pined for him). He did his atrocities to provide for his love in the only way he knew. He was misguided, not evil, which made his story all that more tragic.
In other words, once you get past the bodies exploding, there's quite a tragedy here.

Well, if there's one thing those moronic Hollywood producers can't stand, it's a complex tragedy. So the bodies exploding was kept...and the story was tossed...to be replaced with the usual Hollywood cliches.
Instead of the friend surviving and the lover dying...the friend dies (so Ken can avenge him) while the lover remains alive (so she can be rescued). And of course, we can't any misguided bad guys in a Hollywood movie. Nope, he's pure evil now; not a drop of love in his heart.

And then there's the bodies exploding. Kenshiro's ability is based on the principles of acupuncture: illness and injury are from a disruption of the body's chi. The North Star martial art is all about hitting the body in a way to disrupt that chi violently.
Well, Hollywood might be a town full of acupuncturists, but they weren't having any of that in a movie either. Instead, Kenshiro made bodies explode with the same rapid punches to the same place every time. (Keeps costs down when you can loop and reuse footage, after all.)

So let's keep in mind: if you want live-action anime, make sure it comes from the source of the anime--and stays as far away from Hollywood as possible! Otherwise...we might be seeing You're Under Arrest as "Lethal Weapon 5: Girls Gone Crazy".
