You can tinker around with Windows Movie Maker. It doesn't have much special effects but it's a start. And plus it should already be on your computer.

its pretty easy, you just hafta know wat your doing, you need to download episodes from limewire or somthing.
i make amvs, so heres a couple tips for ya that arnt entirely common sence

-if your not doing lip syncing in your song, dont have charaters talking during the music

-if your doing a charater pairing AMV, dont use one charater more then the other, it should be somewhat balanced

you need to download episodes of anime, if you dont already have a dowloading program, limewire or frostwire will do.

or you could use the DVDs. Limewire is full of viruses

Use Window Movie Maker, get some anime Windows Media Player clips, and you need mp3s to make it.
