Absolute Anime

Manga gets alot of love, so I have decided to see if there are any "AMERICANS" or the like who reads comics?
when east meets west or any other culture.

Choose from your favs:

Marvel.

Darkhorse.

DC.

Dynamite.


I currently only read Marvel, Dynamite and some Dark Horse. I am stuck on Red Sonja, Dark Towers: Gunslinger Born and Ironman, this include Extremis and execute Program.

I believe Comics need Love as well, Maybe a few of us grew up reading them and its most likely comcis that introduced us to manga. Please tell us all what comics you read and do a short review on The comics Art, story and anything else you wish to include.


Ironman- Extremis: Great Comic, I picked up the hardcover and I love it, The story is great because Ironman gets even stronger, even without his armor. The art is superior from any other comic out there today, Its looks great. Check it out.

Red Sonja: Sexy female warrior chick, she wears little clothing so whats not to love? HAHA, well she is a bad ass to boot, the story is great as well. There are many comics on this female warrior and I do not like all of them. The art is done by many not just a single artist, they trade of or whatever. DarkTower: Man oh man, what a great story so far, I never read the books but I seen the sketchbook by "Jay Lee" and Richard Isanove" and It inspired me. so on month later I was there for the premiere. So far its pretty good, Only Issue 1 is out right now. The art is faaaantastic.

Honestly, I read comic books when I was younger, around ages 8-13, and then picked up manga. Comics still interest me, but I prefer the classic storylines and the like. I don't know who they are published by, but I've read SpiderMan, all kinds of variations of Batman, Green Latern, X-Men...stuff like that.

I'm really not a comic authority, but I do respect American comics. However, I prefer Japanese comics more than American comics, only because I like the contextual culture presented in manga. Still, american comics were the archetype, and as such, I love them too.

Thanks for your comment amigo, You were readin DC and Marvel most of your youth eh? Good stuff. I can understand why People Like Manga, I myself read Manga
but not as much as I do comics, comic art is stylized more and I can rely on its proportions to be correct as an artist so thats why I like comics, plus the storys are always there for the most part. I read Blame and Bleach those are the 2 mangas i am into right now.

Thanks again! Its kinda sad to see everyone More into manga than comics because without Comics there would not be Manga. It also surprised me that alot of users here on AA go out to see Marvel movies Like "GHOST RIDER", "SPIDERMAN" and other super hero related movies but they do not know anything about them, or there history.

And I would agree with you in the sense that American comic books are considered the traditional archetype of all comics. However, Japanese animation as we know it dates as far back as the mid 1960s,and therefore, so did japanese comics. I really don't know of the exact dates, but I would tend to believe that Japan started publishing comic strips of heroic characters a few years before America did. KEYWORD: COMIC STRIPS

However, in the 70s, we had American comic books. These obviously predated or perhaps matched the publication of Japanese manga. Though the format of both American comics and Japanese manga is similar, I think its fair to say America were the first to have traditional comic books. However, Japan and America are very different nations, and I would not say that Japan built off what America created in terms of comic strip publication. Why? Just sheer cultural differences. Ultimately, both medias are spectacular, both are orignials in their own right, and I love both of them. ^_^

Good, Good, You do know Disney and Manga are closely related right?

I used to read American comics a lot when I was younger, around the ages 10-15 but not anymore. Archie was one of my most favorite comics and I used to buy lots of it. I am much more into manga now. The artwork and the storyline are much more deep than the American comics. I am also into the beautiful artwork of the Japanese manga creators.

I can't get a hold of any. I live in London, that's bad when it comes to comics:(

Much more deep? How so? There are plenty of American made comics with deep storylines... Spawn is one example and Marvels X-men series is another especially the Dark Pheonix Saga and everything dealing with the Legacy Virus. If you turn your eyes to Dark Horse you have Star Wars and there isn't much in the universe that isn't deep...

The of course there always is Rising Stars... It was only 25 or 26 issues long, but it was terrific. (The reason it was short was because the creator wanted it that way)

HAHA I lost total faith in you, your a lost soul..You read archie? This explain why you believe that Comics are less evolved than Manga, read some Marvel, good Marvel and you will think otherwise. I sugest next time you decide to add your opinion that you do your homework. Manga is closely resembles disney, Do you know why? Comics can very well be published equal or superior to Manga.
