Did Tetsuo die at the end of Akira?

I've seen Akira and I love it but this question still perplexes me. The 3 little kids mentioned that Akira takes Tetsuo with him. Does that mean Akira takes him across the universe or in a way he kills Tetsuo and takes him to heaven? Any help here would be appreciated.

That really is a tough questioon. I've aslo seen Akira but I believe it means he killed Tetsuo. Sorry is I wasn't much help ^^;

I've only seen Aira once. Dun remember to clearly... Did he like, blow up? I 4got ^^'' coz he was like all vains and vessels... Dunno, but at the end I think Akito took him to heaven or sth...

Tetsuo didn't die. He couldn't handle his godlike power, so he basically exploded and became a new universe. At the end, he says "I am Tetsuo", a clear sign that he's either in another universe or he's become a god somehow.
