If I wanted to creat a name from a japanese word, say the word 'neko' for example, how could I do it without just saying 'neko'? Like would I have to say 'nekoni' or 'nekoko'..? What is correct?

Hmm... I guess it depends on the context. If you were using it in a Japanese context you'd probably want to add a suffix, but if you were using it elsewhere you can leave it as is.

I think the best way to do it is basically in reverse of what you are doing. That is, search through existing Japanese names untill you find one that has the same meaning as a name you want.

but if you want neko to be the name maybe neko-chan/sama/san/kun

but its helpful if you know what those mean too.
Chan is usually used for something small and cute or someone younger
Kun is usually used for boys
San is used as Mr/Mrs/Ms or as a sign of respect towards people older than you
Sama is, I believe, a higher form of respect, like master

Dono is equivalent to "madam" or "sir". Politer than san, but definitely not "lord". It's most commonly used in writing business letters.

hmmm.....japanese names are super...I use them all the time for messenger id's '...it's kinda interesting esspecially if people don't know what it means...it's cool and easy ...you just find words you like
like: "shiroi tenshi" (white angel)
"rei no ai" (love of the spirit) no=of the...
if you wanna give a clue about your age you add -chan (for kids)
-san(for adults, it's similar to Mr)
- kun(for adults, symbolizes respect)
-sama (not only for lords but for people with a higher rank: teacher, doctor etc, also for God : "Kami-sama)

well, kun isn't always for adults. you can use it for friends. For sama, not exactly God for cryin' out loud, domo is for God.

But the correct way of saying it in japanese would be Sakura no Haru
