Need help identifying basebal anime series

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help me.
I'm trying to remember the name of a series that I saw some years back (early 90's, I think, maybe 92/93), before the appearance of Dragonball and such, and right before (I think) Captain Tsubasa and Saint Seiya
It was about a boy who played baseball, and could throw his ball in a way that it disappeared half way and leave the batter whitout knowing where to hit the ball.
Later in the series (after a high-tech opponent found out how to hit that disappearing ball), he starts throwing a ball that divides in 7 (or so it seems).
I missed a couple of episodes here, so don't know what happened.
After that, the super fast ball. He finds a way to throw a ball that is so fast that no-one can see it fast enough to hit it.
Here, a fat kid (opponent) appears and tryes to hit the ball, but ends up breaking his bat. He then returns during the season with a new bat, especially made by him, that is based on the suspended logs that monks have in their monasteryes to hit the giant bells they have. This bat is completely cylindrical, so it can withstand the power of the superfast ball.
The series stopped broadcasting right about this time, and I've never heard of it since.
This is all I can remember from it, hope someone can help me find this out.
Thanks in advance.
