Absolute Anime

Does anyone who has seen Digimon know how Ken's brother, Sam, really dies? I've heard two versions from multiple people. The first is that he was in a car accident or hit by a car, and the second is that he fell off a balcony. Was it one way in the Japanese version and a different way in the English dub?
