RUROUNI kenshin

I've been a fan of kenshin for about 8 years or so i've seen the entire series a good 10 times, movie a few times and the OVA to many times to count... and i still have no clue where RUROUNI comes from. Kenshin is never once called that and yet it is the name of the series.... can anyone explain? i've been tryin to find this out for a very long time and would love it if someone here knew.

Rurouni = wanderer, which is what Kenshin is now. "Kenshin, the wanderer."
(if I'm wrong, please, someone correct me)

No, you're exactly right! In the first or sencond episode(i can't remember)he said he became a rurouni because he gave up being a battousai(sp?)

He's called Rurouni a bunch of times in the manga. The anime translates "rurouni" to "wanderer".

I thought the term for wandering samurai was "ronin" not "rurouni"

Rurouni is a word that Watsuki made up from the kanji ru - wandering and ronin - masterless samurai.

Oh. Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering how that word came to be.
