The End of Cinderella
They heard her cry upon the stair
With sapphire eyes and golden hair
Skin of silk perfume so sweet
Glass slippers upon her feet
She weeps for love she does not feel
She weeps for wounds that will not heal
Weeping weeping all the night
While the stars are shining bright
Ears are deaf and hearts condemn
This poor woman’s requiem
They heard her sing of dreams and love
Of feelings people dare dream of
She’s stopped singing they don’t know why
All they do is hear her cry
Did she wake up from all her dreams?
Was all of it not just what it seems?
Maybe Charming wasn’t so
After all she didn’t know
The man behind those angel eyes
Would break her trust and tell her lies
Did she even know his name?
Did she just focus on the fame?
Did she just want to get away
from scrubbing floors day after day?
Of jealous sisters stealing clothes?
Of mother ignoring constant woes?
Her reason is shown in all her tears
She has shed o’er all the years
Now she’s dancing cross the floor
Though the music’s there no more
She focuses on happy things
Of birds who’d tie her apron strings
Of mice who’d tell her “It’s okay,”
“you’ll get out of here someday.”
But now the mice and birds are gone
She has no reason for a song
Then her slippers shatter there
Her scream pierced through the evening air
The shards of that one magic night
Pierce her skin with all their might
She falls bleeding on the floor
Staring at the stars once more
The cuts are deep into her veins
Reminding her of all the pains
Her eyes are fading like the night
Though she fights with all of her might
To fight the dark embrace of death
She mutters words with her last breath
She mutters words that can not do
The magic they are supposed to
The bells toll twelve on hallowed ground
Their echoes are the only sound
That is heard across the floor
Where her song is heard no more
The End of Cinderella
They heard her cry upon the stair
With sapphire eyes and golden hair
Skin of silk perfume so sweet
Glass slippers upon her feet
She weeps for love she does not feel
She weeps for wounds that will not heal
Weeping weeping all the night
