Absolute Anime

I could be wasting my time with this question, since after I'm done posting this I'll go off to continue watching;

But this is never confirmed. After Light gets his memory and ownership back, Light's eyes are often portrayed as red. Did he retain the eyes from that jackass that was killed by his watch-piece? Or is it simply symbolizing his inner-sinister?

I'm inclined to believe the symbolism, since he hasn't said after 2 or 3 episodes (to where I am now) that he can see dates and names.
