HD Loader version 3.8C -- more compatible?

Several sites are still selling the HD Loader 3.0 some are selling 3.x and the apparent product developer is selling 3.8.

refers several times to HDL 0.8beta. Have any of the compatibility issues been checked with newer versions? Big thing to check on is dual layer DVD games would only load first layer with older versions. Should I just drop some cash and see if the compatibility issues are gone? And post my findings?
