Perhaps Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure or Macross for mech anime, and Jubei-Chan: The Ninja Girl or Flame of Recca for ninja anime.

Doh! How could I forget Dual! and Flame of Recca!? Those are awesome animes Shinta, if you haven't seen them, get them now!

Gundam and Eva combined? perhaps RahXephon is your answer. It has fast and explosive mecha action, combined with a deep and entrenching storyline. I personally think of it as "Evangalion done properly"

You might wanna try the Excell saga or Kiddy Grade.
Or evan trigun.

Yes I agree! But that only goes for the manga- the anime is total crap. I almost knifed my TV after buying and watching the first dvd.

Argentosoma is a little slow to take off but worth the time. Ends up going in a direction you didn't suspect.

Di-Guard is a lot of fun -- combo corporate culture and mecha. Very amusing and sometimes touching. Monsters remind me of Eva "angles."

Generator Gawl is turning out to be a good one. Not exactly mecha but amusing and touching with a good SciFi plot

Love the music from Gad Guard. Mecha ... worth a rental.

Full Metal Panic is fun.

Gasaraki is a real favorite of mine. Heavy, thinking mecha big on current world events and geo politics.

For Ninja/Samauri stuff try Samauri Deeper Kyo and Peacemaker
