Read the Astray Manga, it explains everything.

the main character (can't remember his name) and pilot of the Astray Red Frame finds Kira unconsious, and then brings him to Lacus...I think. check the manga section of http://www.mahq.net , it should say

I believe it was reverend Malchio that brought Kira to Lacus, and that was in the series if you were paying attention. Lowe brought Kira to Malchio.

anyways, I got the SD avatar from this website (you have got to check out this site out) http://www.geocities.com/levon_r/LevonsAvatars.html It has a LOT of animated Gundam Avatars (as well as Eva, RahXephon, and a bunch of other series), including 0083 and F91 avatars (your favorites I believe...)
