the most useless character in the show. what's his purpose? he doesn't duel, he's not the side kick, hes not the token female. is is just so there is an even number?

He is not useless.Kaiba is though.Tristan was Joey's friend before they meet Yugi.When Joey became Yugi's friend Tristan became Yugi's friend too.

He is not useless.Kaiba is though.Tristan was Joey's friend before they meet Yugi.When Joey became Yugi's friend Tristan became Yugi's friend too.
Kaiba is there because he is continually in the main characters way and is his adversary.
sure tristan was joey's friend but really whats his part looking at it from the standpoint of his actual role in the show ?

Don't care.He's better looking,smarter and all around better then Seto so that is why he is there in my mind.

No.He is better looking.At least he doesn't get dressed in the dark or wear belts on his arms and legs.

I love the belts.. atleast Seto doesnt just wear whats in fashion ... he can think for him self.

Well Tristan doesn't really have a role to play, Kaiba has a huge role.
But frankly you'd have to look at all the characters and say what their roles are.
And now that I think about it Rex and Weevil are pretty wierd Villians...
