In that 2 on 1 handicap duel against Dartz, we see a fusion monster get fused to another monster.(I.e BEUD + Black Luster Soldier.) Now, as fusion monsters are never in your hand, it is fair to assume you must fusion summon the first fusion monster first?

I shall try to simplify. seto fused 3 BEWDs to make BEUD. Yugi fused Black Luster Soldier to BEUD top make Ultimate Dragon Soldier (I think that's what it's called.)

Now, as you know, fusion monster cards are in the fusion deck, not the deck or hand. So fusing while BEUD in hand is right out. So I take it you need to have BEUD on the field for it to work.

Besides, in the anime, for some reason Flame Swordsman is normal summoned.
