Absolute Anime

i hate american comics...the main characters r always so muscular that its gross...the guys r so ripped that it looks lyk they have man boobs...and the chicks r so muscular that they look lyk dykes(ex.wonder woman)

LOL I don't know. I always kind of liked X-Men and .... oh .... what was the name of their Canadian counterparts..... drat. The leader was a cool lady with a maple leaf unitard.

Still, I must admit the super hero coutume thing is pretty trite.

i personally only like a few differnt american comics [the punisher, 100 bullets, sin city] but i would prefer manga anyday.

I've never read any american comics...
I only read manga and books.

It's been years since I looked at a comic. Had a boyfriend who was really into it and so I kind of got into a couple series. Forerunner to my interest in Anime I guess. And yeah, manga is a similar yet, to my mind, superior form of storytelling.

Darl Lilly, you're thinking of Alpha Flight. I liked them too back when John Byrne and Marty Pasko were the writers. (They're two of my favorite writers--a guilty pleasure .)

I don't read American comics much, it sucks. I like mangas better!

I was never in to the American stuff that much other then an occasional look at a few of the old Marvel comics.. but I dun like their animation at all... I definately would prefer manga anyday ^_^;

I have to agree. American Comics, in my opinion, looks dull. We have a Punisher and X-man comics here and I never liked it. I did like The Punisher a little, though, but that's it. Manga comics are much more fun to read and more clearer to understand. I have 3 volumes of Slam Dunk here!

And Azuria...as my list shows, there's more to comics than the excrement being shoveled monthly from New York.
When I mentioned American comics, I was in no way talking about Marvel or DC. I might pick up the odd title that piques my interest (last DC series: My Faith in Frankie; last Marvel series: the currently-running GLA--and even then I didn't know they would be "Crisis"-ing those heroes, the bastards).

To be a bit clearer...

Gold Digger--Antarctic Press (Texas)
Ninja High School--Antarctic Press (Texas)
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark--Claypool Comics (California)
Shanda the Panda, Katmandu, & Extinctioners--Shanda Fantasy Arts (Arkansas)

The only superhero title I regularly buy is Femforce--and that's because Bill and Rebekah Black (the couple that own AC Comics and do much of the work for the company) haven't "Crisis"-ed their title. That, and that they have no aversion to letting writers bring in their own creator-owned characters for a story run. They're good people that way.

As for the rest...KoDT & Dork Tower are gaming comics. The rest are mainly furries or American "manga"--and not a superhero title among them! (I prefer dramas with some comedic elements...the kind of thing manga is famous for having.)

So again I recommend American comics. Here's an idea: go to a gaming store or regular comics store--and simply avoid every book with Marvel, DC, Image, and Dark Horse on the cover. Check out what else they have besides those. (If the comics shop doesn't have a lot besides those four...that's a comics shop that's treading water for certain.)
And for another specific recommendation: Peebomanga Volume One from Antarctic Press. Fred Perry is a great artist and writer; you can't go wrong with his work.

That's all I'm asking. Give the titles I pointed out in my prior post and Peebomanga a try. Take a look at them. What's the worst that can happen to you for just looking at Gold Digger, for example?

Just give American comics a try is all I'm asking. Yes, there's a lot of excrement in American comics; I've said that in other threadcities, even sparked a mini-debate in another threadcity over this issue. But there's a lot of fun books as well. Just give the titles I recommend a chance.
