Anime Description: Remi the Homeless Girl

La Naki Ko Remi is based on the novel Le Naki Ko by famous French writer, Hector Malot. The original starred a boy as the hero, Remi, but in the anime La Naki Ko Remi, Remi is a girl.

Remi lives in a small town in France. She is a very kind and cheerful girl who has a great voice. But one day her father, who had come back from Paris, told her that he was not his paternal daughter, that she was actually adopted.

Vitaris, a traveling Circus director, discovered Remi's talent, so Remi ran away from her home with Vitaris, Jolly (a monkey), and the three dogs as her only family. But when two of the dogs die trying to protect Remi and the others, it is very sad at the point that it could make any person cry. Soon after that event Vitaris dies, leaving Remi alone with Jolly and the dog.

But before Vitaris died, he told Remi to go to see a man called Mister Gaspard in Paris. When she arrives in France, Remi learns that Mister Gaspard was killed a year before by Gaspard the second, who is a very cruel man. A lot of sad and unfortunate things happen to her, but in the end Remi finds her real family.

This anime is very touching. There are at least five episodes that made me cry. This anime is part of World Masterpiece Theater.
