DVD Review: Adventure Time: Frost & Fire
Yet another Adventure Time compilation DVD has been released, and this one is called Frost & Fire. This does not include a pack-in like the Jake hat in Adventure Time: Jake the Dad or the Finn backpack in Adventure Time: Finn the Human. The compilation contains a mix of episodes from five different seasons, but most are from seasons five and six. The others are two from season 1, one from season 3, and two from season 4.
If you're unfamiliar with the show, you can learn a bit more about it by checking out my other Adventure Time reviews:

- Adventure Time: Jake the Dad
- Adventure Time: Finn the Human
This DVD is called Frost & Fire, which is the title of the first episode on the disc, and it's a major episode with several battles between Flame Princess and Ice King. It starts with Finn and Flame Princess having a nice picnic when Ice King shows up being his normal annoying self. This angers Flame Princess and we get our first showdown between the two, with Flame Princess kicking Ice King's butt. Then Finn has an intense dream and can't stop thinking about it so decides that he needs to see her battle him again. And this is where Finn starts to get out of character as he actually instigates a fight between the two. But this battle doesn't go the way Finn expected and another dream causes him to instigate another fight, a final epic showdown! This was a great episode not just for the story, but because it was beautifully animated and also had more of an emotional impact that most episodes.
The next episode on the disc continues the aftermath of Frost & Fire. We get to see a flashback with Flame Princess as a baby, which was cool, and we also get to see her as even more bad-ass than before. This episode had more laughs than the previous one, though it still got kind of emotional, especially towards the end. Return to the Nightosphere (originally known as They Went to the Nightosphere) and Daddy's Little Monster are two great episodes I remember from the Season 4 box set. Finn and Jake awake in a pile of bananas, in a giant cage, in some place that looks like hell which is called the Nightosphere and they have no memory of how they got there. Jake has the events recorded on his phone, but unfortunately the battery dies before they can watch it. So they go on a quest to seek out the leader of the Nightosphere, who is also Marceline's father. The cliffhanger ending of the Nightosphere episode is resolved in Daddy's Little Monster and Jake and Finn are finally able to watched the video on Jake's phone, but I won't spoil anything.
The Pit is a cool episode I hadn't seen before, where Jake is mistaken for his dad and is thrown into a pit where he is supposed to suffer, but instead he just chills out while Finn mounts a rescue. James is yet another good one, where Princess Bubblegum, Finn, Jake, and a character named James become trapped in the vehicle they were using by goo monsters. Finn comes up with escape plans which all mysteriously get sabotaged, and the main suspect is kooky James. I kind of got an Alien vibe from it, with a group of characters trapped and high tension with things monsters around and things going wrong.
All the episodes are enjoyable, so it's a pretty good compilation, but it's still hard for me to recommend this DVD only because I'd instead recommend the full season box sets. Plus, this one doesn't have any extra features or even come with a cool pack-in like some of the others.
