Phineas and Ferb are back in an hour long special called Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars! The opening crawl specifies it as episode IVa, which is fitting because, until the Family Guy Star Wars special, this isn't a parody, it's a separate story that takes place concurrently with the story in Star Wars episode IV. All the main characters from the film make an appearance, but unfortunately the actors we all know and love don't provide the voices.
I really loved the Family Guy Star Wars parody episodes, but I'm quite glad Phineas and Ferb didn't go that direction. There has been plenty of parodies and it would have been really restrictive to our Phineaus and Ferb characters. Showing them as their own characters in their own story intersecting with the events in the movie was just great. There is a ton of humor here, and there's some for everyone. There's your typical Phineas and Ferb comedy, plus a bunch of Star Wars jokes and lines lifted straight from the film, plus jokes that only hard core Star Wars fans would get.
The story follows Phineas and Ferb as they encounter R2-D2 on the planet Tatooine. They accidentally come into the Death Star plans and must find a pilot to help them catch up to the Millennium Falcon so they can return the plans, but we all know where the Millennium Falcon ends up. Along the way, Stormtroopers Candice, Buford, and Baljeet get sidetracked off their mission to buy socks for Darth Vader and end up following Phineas and Ferb in order to retrieve the plans. And then there's Secret Agent Perry who must stop evil Dr. Darthenshmirtz.
Just like other Phineas and Ferb episodes, you'll find musical numbers here. I counted five, and they're all pretty catchy and funny. I'm positive they'll release a soundtrack along with the movie. If you're a Phineas and Ferb fan or a Star Wars fan, you will absolutely love this special. For everyone else, I still think you'll enjoy it.
Along with the special, there are also 5 additional Phineas and Ferb episodes included:
- For Your Ice Only / Happy New Year!
- Steampunx / It's No Picnic
- Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror (Parts 1 and 2)
- Doof 101 / Father's Day
- Tales from the Resistance (Parts 1 & 2)
And as if that wasn't enough, also included is a real, metal Perry-in-Carbonite keychain. Personally I would have preferred it to be a magnet or something since I don't much care for keychains, but it's still pretty cool. I'm sure I can superglue magnets to the back of it.
