On Monday I called DirecTV again about the fact that we are still receiving the Reelz Channel instead of the CW Network on Channel 10. Some of you may remember that I called them back in October of last year, and was told that it was a known problem that they were working on. Guess what? They had no idea that this was happening. Notice I didn't say "still happening". Nope, they had no idea it was happening PERIOD! So this time the lady opened up a claim (or whatever you call it) and said they will be definitely having people looking into what's going on. I'm supposed to call back in about three weeks if the problem hasn't been corrected by then.

I drove down to Vallejo Wednesday of last week in order to attend the funeral service for my Uncle Tom. It was my first funeral experience, and it was certainly no fun. And weirdly enough, it was fun... fun to get together with family, with everyone at the same time. The service itself was very touching. When my Uncle James spoke about the great kind of guy Tom was, it was so beautiful and heartfelt that I had to really fight to hold back the tears. And when my Uncle Bill got up and told the story about when they were kids, I was for the first time able to picture my Dad and all my uncles as kids, as brothers, playing, fighting, messing around, and being there for each other.
It was a wonderful service, and afterwards most everyone went to this Italian restaurant for lunch. It was rented out just for us, and all the food was served buffet style. This is where we really got to talk and catch up. So why does it take a funeral in order to get everyone together? It saddens me greatly to think about this, as it means the next time I get to see everyone... there's going to be one more that I'll never get see or speak with again, permanently missing. And that just is not right! We should be having reunions, even if it's only once every five years. Can't somebody get that together? Hey... I'm somebody... but wait, I have no idea how to even organize a freakin' Halloween party, much less a full-on family reunion! Maybe there's a website out there that could teach me....
The week before I was to leave for Vallejo, we had our water heater bust and Treese's rocker/recliner break. The pool of water under the water heater clued us in that there was some kind of problem going on with it. At first it appeared to be just a leaky drain valve, so I bought and attached a brass cap, which stopped the leak, and then I cleaned up the mess and kept an eye on it for the next couple days. But two days later there was still water leaking from somewhere, so the plumber came out the day before I needed to leave town and told me what I suspected... it had rusted through and we needed a new one. Luckily, our house insurance covers that! He had a new one delivered within an hour, and got everything hooked up nice and proper.
And now about Treese's rocker... apparently the part of the chair underneath the seat area dislodged somehow and got stuck in the metal area that extends the foot rest. We called Kuebler's Furniture and they set up a service ticket for us no sweat, no charge. They said the dude who does the repairs would call me soon to come over. Unfortunately, he didn't, as it turns out it was a very busy time for him as well. So the morning that I had to leave town I called them to say that I wouldn't be home for the rest of the week so don't bother calling until the following Monday. But instead of getting to say all that, the dude, upon learning that I would be leaving town, said he'd come over before I had to leave to take a look at the chair. You don't see service like that much anymore! And yep, he showed up, looked at the chair, and took it with him so that he could fix it. We just got it back on Tuesday, good as new. Treese was sure happy to have it back, and I would just like to thank the good people at Kuebler's Furniture for their excellent service.
