What a knockabout of pure fun that was! And by that, of course, I am referring to Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which I've played through twice completely now and am working on my third time through, in addition to Xbox Live online play. That game is a lot of fun, though it is awfully short and is void of any side jobs. I would have loved to been able to accept jobs at various locations in the city that were not part of the linear story line. Maybe they'll add that in the sequel.
So this has been a busy couple months. Back in December my wife, Treese, had her hip replacement surgery. She went in on the 21st and came home only two days later. Everything went great and she is healing nicely. My parents then came to visit about a week and a half later, and one of the days while I was at a dentist appointment the three of them went out to Turtle Bay, where Treese walked all the way across the Sundial Bridge and back, something she wasn't able to do before.
Oh, there was a 6.5 earthquake near Eureka on January 9th which both my wife and I felt. I've been through earthquakes before but that's the first one I really ever felt.
I bought a game called HeroScape on eBay which turned out not to be as much fun as I was expecting. I was thinking it would be similar to Hero Quest, but unlike that game there is little adventure or exploring or story. HeroScape is basically just a battle between opposing forces. I used to have Hero Quest, but have no idea where it is now. I'm pretty sure I left it at my parents house when I moved, but I've looked for it several times when I've visited and still haven't been able to find it. I would just buy a new one if they weren't so dang expensive. That was a great game and really deserves to be back in production.
Had an oil change done on my wife's car one night at Toyota (gotta love that free lifetime oil change!), and as soon as I got the car inclined on our driveway heading into the garage, the check engine light came on. So I took it back the next morning where one of the guys told me it was just a coincidence (yeah, right), but that they fixed it for free because it was nearby where they were working on the fluid changes the previous night.
So that was actually on Treese's car, which also needed new tires so I started looking into that. Eventually decided on American Tire because they were the cheapest by far from any of the other places, and their website had customer reviews on many different tires that would fit our vehicle.
On the 24th of January, I finally got around to replacing the fan in Treese's laptop. It's a huge pain in the butt to do since I basically have to take the entire thing apart, but the fan was just getting way too noisy. It took a few hours, but once it was back together the real pain started, as in the middle of booting up into Windows the main hard drive experienced a complete failure. Luckily, most of the data was on the secondary drive, so we didn't lose much, but I then had to back up all that stuff to my hard drive so that I could wipe it and make it the primary drive. Re-installing Windows and getting it all updated and re-installing all of her frequently used software literally took all night. I went to bed shortly after she had woken up. The sun had already started to rise, but thankfully we have blackout blinds in the bedroom.
Four days later we got a surprise visit from my Aunt Cherri and Uncle James. They had been visiting my parents and were heading home, so we all went out for breakfast and talked. This was like only the second time they had been to our house. The new hard drive for Treese's laptop arrived the same day, so I got that put in and all her data put back, which made her happy.
The following Sunday we went to visit my parents. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing, because someone had bought my 300 disc DVD player that I was selling on Amazon, and they just happened to live within a 30 minute drive of my parents' place, so we figured we could hand deliver it and not have to worry about FedEx being too rough with it. We had a nice visit and even stayed a day longer than initially planned.
I mentioned in a previous section that we had gotten a TV from my aunt to replace the one in our bedroom. For some reason, this TV would have strange color fluctuations when composite wires from various sources were ran through a switchbox into an RF modulator and out to the TV. Remove the switchbox and everything looked fine, or replace the RF Modulator with a very long 50ft composite cable and again everything looked fine. So what I ended up doing was running a 50ft cable through the attic so we could toss out the RF modulator. tested it before putting it in the attic and it looked perfect, but after I was done we now get a little big of line crawl on the screen. So either I bent it incorrectly while I was installing it, or there's some kind of minor interference happening only in the attic.
We didn't do much on Valentine's Day, but on the 17th it was a beautiful day outside so we went to the nearby park and took a walk. Can you believe we lived here like 10 years and never walked around there before? Besides the open fields and various ball courts, there's also a really cool wooden jungle gym-type play area for kids and a water fountain area, though the water play area was closed for winter. Definitely a nice place to take our kids, when we have them... which will hopefully be sooner rather than later.
Anyway, so right now my mother-in-law is visiting. This morning we all went to see Wolfman, which was just alright. Had some good stuff, but overall I felt it was kinda boring. Anyway, so that's what has been going on. Probably forgot some stuff but oh well. I'll post it later if I think of anything.
