Character Description: L Lawliet
L is a private detective, the world's top detective. He never shows his face to anyone. When he makes his debuts it's with a computer screen that reads L and a mechanical voice. When he finally does reveal himself to only a chosen few, no one was prepared for what they saw. He's young, loves sweets and hates to wear shoes. He's very serious and hates to lose.
When he starts the Kira case, he immediately begins the investigation with Light. As Light tries to prove his innocence, L gets more proof that Kira is, in fact, Light. He even invites Light the join the Kira investigation in order to gain more evidence against him, but unfortunately Light is always three steps ahead.
L's full name, L Lawliet, is finally revealed in "How to Read 13", which is considered to be the 13th volume of the Death Note manga series. He was born on October 31, 1979, enters the series on December 4, 2003 at the age of 24, and dies on November 5th of the following year at age 25. However, the anime adjusts the years a bit, making L's birth occurring in 1982.

I was so sad when L died! He was so cuteeee! X3 (Actually, if he was real, then he'd look pretty ugly o_o) But I just love his smile in Chapter 11! (page 17) and he was totally right on Light being kira! Grrr I hate you Light! *sniff sniff* Meh, and his sitting position and obsession with sweeeets and his bluntness makes him even cuter!! :D I actually cried when he died in the manga. Back when I first started watching, I was on light's side. L had made a comment about catching kira or die trying in the version i read. I said "well, looks like your gonna die". then i fell in love with him after getting to know who he was, and hated light. then L died and I tried to find a loophole in the deathnote to try to save him (in a fanfic). I am still obsessed with trying to save him and cannot get a real boyfriend because I am truly in love with L. I dont even want anyone else, all I need is L. ... show more »

I hate that I like L. I mean, really. He says that he's justice, but he plans to execute Kira, so doesn't that make him a hypocrite? I mean, it sort of defeats the purpose to protect the life of criminals when he plans to have one taken himself. Not to mention, he uses people like they don't matter, like they're just tools to fulfill his want to kill Kira. His little "test" that made Aizawa quit infuriated me. That doesn't seem like he's so driven by the will of justice to me. >_> I think he's a narcissist that wants to win just to prove, yet again, that he's the best detective in the world. He has no motive but to win. He's like Mello, but Mello seems like he has as serious inferiority complex and that's why he's willing to do anything to beat Near, which I think is a hell of a lot better reason than just to win. I think that L is worse than even Light, and I don't agree with the notion that criminals should be killed - but at least Light, like Mello, has a viable reason: he wants to protect the innocent. At the same time, I can't help but like L. Damn it, I'm so contradictory. L is just so...qwirky and unique. i may be the third Kira and kill ppl, but L Lawliet shouldn't have died. i didn't kill him, that's for sure. Light may say that he is justice, but he is not. i will capture Light and make sure that L Lawliet's death gets revenge. i love L and i will make sure it does not go unnoticed!

I did a survey an another website, as it progressed, I discoverd over 987 people agreed that L was still a virgin when he died! (98% of those being fangirls, like me! ^^)
